Science PCB Ug course

Bachelor in Prosthetics and Orthotics or BPO course is a 4.5-year undergraduate-level course. Prosthetics and orthotics deal with the treatment of emotional disabilities due to lost body parts or neuromuscular disorders by replacing them with artificially designed parts. This course comprises of a 6 months internship separately for Prosthetics and Orthotics (3 months each).

Prosthetics is an artificial substitute to body parts which is replaced with defected or lost body part like bones, eye, arms or legs, etc. while Orthotics deals with the treatment of abnormal motion or deformation of body parts like bones, teeth etc. by using aligners to correct their alignment.

Eligibility Criteria for BPO Course

Before applying for admission in BPO course, candidates need to check themselves for eligibility. Only those candidates can apply who have-

  • Completed their 10+2 from a recognized board with at least 50% academic aggregate in physics, chemistry and biology. (45% for SC/ST/PwD)
  • Candidates must have studied science stream with Biology as a compulsory subject.
  • Must be 17 years or more.

Admission Process for BPO Course

Admission to this course is provided through NEET entrance exam or any other state or university level entrance. Few Private Institutes also provide direct admissions based on 12th board marks.

Admission through Entrance Exam

To take admission through the entrance exam, candidates have to appear for the exams conducted by the respective University or Institute. Seats are allotted on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance exams as per cutoffs declared by the authorities. After that, a counselling round is conducted where candidates can choose colleges of their choice.

Direct Admissions

Direct admissions are provided by most of the private Institutes on merit basis. Few colleges may conduct a special interview for candidates, after which a separate list of seat allotment is announced.

Good career opportunities are available after BPO. Just like any other medical profession, Prosthetics and Orthotics is a good career to choose which pays you well. BPO Course – FAQ’s

What is the difference in BPT and BPO?

BPO is Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics and BPT is Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Both are 4 year UG level course. The basic difference is that physiotherapy is related to Physical problems only ( like any injury, disability or any other movement of the body) while Orthotics and Prosthetics deal with the replacement of damaged or lost body parts with artificial ones.

What is the difference between Orthotics and Prosthetics?

Orthotics deals with the treatment of abnormal body parts like bones, teeth spinal cord, etc. by using devices to realign their deformed shape while Prosthetics is artificially designed parts which replace lost or damaged body parts completely.
