NEET Entrance Exam, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is the National level entrance exam of India. It is one of the toughest entrance exams for the medical course. NEET exam is the only entrance exam for MBBS and BDS medical courses. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is conducted by NTA for the admission of MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc. NEET Entrance exam is conducted for both UG and PG courses. Both AIIMS and JIPMER has been replaced by the NEET entrance exam.

What is NTA?

NTA or National Testing Agency is an autonomous body set up by the Ministry of HRD (Human Resource Development). NTA conducts various entrance exams for admission into the higher education of top and reputed government/private Universities. National Testing Agency organizes various entrance exams at the national level like JEE MAINS, JEE ADVANCED, CMAT, NEET, GPAT, UGC NET, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Citizens of India, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and Foreign Nationals are eligible for NEET entrance Exam.

Educational Qualifications

  • Candidate must pass class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English subjects from any recognized board of India.
  • For General Category, it is mandatory to score a minimum of 50% in the 12th standard. Whereas, OBC/ST/SC candidate must score at least 40% in class 12th in order to become eligible for NEET Exam.
  • Physically handicapped candidates must pass class 12th with a minimum of 45%.
  • Students of NIOS or any other open schooling are also eligible.

Age Limit

The Lower age limit should be 17 years. There is no upper age limit.

About 85% of the seats of the medical and dental courses are reserved for State Quota candidates. And, about 15% of seats are reserved for All India Quota candidates. Candidates from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir do not fall under 15% of all India Quota seats. Hence, such candidates can take admission in the Armed Forces College (AFMC), Pune.

Admission Process

On the Clearing NEET exam, you have to apply for the counselling process. Only those candidates are eligible for counselling who have cleared the NEET cut-off. The qualifying percentile for different categories 2019 is as mentioned below:

  • General Category: 50th Percentile
  • OBC/SC/ST Category: 40th percentile
  • Physically Handicapped- General Category: 45th Percentile
  • Physically Handicapped- OBC/ST/SC: 40th percentile

Exam Pattern

The exam pattern of neet 2020 remains the same as in previous years, there is no change in the neet examination pattern. National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test conducted offline that is a pen or a paper-based exam.

There is a total of three sections in this entrance exam like Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Both physics and chemistry sections career 45 questions each while the biology section carries 90 questions. Only because of two subsections of biology are Botany and Zoology. Therefore, Biology carries 45+45 questions.

You can see in the above table that one correct answer is awarded as 4 marks. So, there are 720 marks of a total of 180 questions. The time duration of this exam is three hours. Therefore, you have to solve 180 questions in 180 minutes which is a challenging task for all the neet aspirants.

Around 15 lakhs of student appearing for the neet entrance exam every year. In which limited students are selected because of limited seats in India.

Marking Scheme

There is 1 negative marking in the NEET exam that means one wrong answer will detect one extra mark. The type of question is MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) in which you have to tick the right answer among four options in a question.

NEET exam is held in a total of 11 languages in which you can choose any one medium- English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Urdu, Assamese, Kannada, Oriya, and Tamil.
