AILET Exam details, All India Law Entrance Test

Entrance exam

National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) is responsible for conducting the AILET Examination for admissions in B.A.LL.B (Hons), LL.M, and Ph.D. This exam is conducted every year in the month of May, but this year the exams kept on postponing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a university-level entrance exam only for admissions at NLU Delhi.

As per the latest information, the AILET exam 2020 examination for admission to B.A.LL.B (Hons.), LL.M. & Ph.D. Programmes will be conducted on September 26, 2020, from 11 am to 12:30 noon through computer-based mode at various centers across the country.

AILET 2020 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The candidates who want admissions at NLU Delhi through AILET can check the eligibility criteria as mentioned below:

COURSE LEVEL/ ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

B.A.LL.B

  • Candidates who have passed their 12th from a recognized board with minimum 50% marks for all categories.
  • Candidates appearing for their 12th exam are also eligible.

LL.M

  • Candidates with LLB or any other equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks are eligible.
  • SC/ST candidates need to secure at least 50% marks in the final year of the LLB degree.
  • Candidates appearing for their final year LLB examinations are also eligible.

Ph.D

  • Candidates holding an LLM degree from any recognized university with at least 55% marks for the General category and 50% marks for SC/ST category are eligible. Or
  • If candidates have completed their law degree along with a master’s degree such as MPhil in Social Sciences/ Humanities from any recognized university with minimum 55% marks. Such candidates should ensure that the research work they have conducted is relevant to any discipline of law and with a special focus on topics like Public Policy of Law. Or
  • Candidates who have completed a degree in law and a Ph.D. in any discipline. Or
  • Candidates who have worked as a State High Court Judge in India for at least three years or Judge at the Supreme Court of India.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

Candidates need to register themselves online at the official website of NLU Delhi https://nludelhi.ac.in and fill the application form including candidates’ details, documents uploading, exam center selection, and payment. The application forms need to be submitted in online mode only.

The total time a candidate gets for the Exam is 90 minutes, which is 1 hour and 30 minutes. In this case, candidates need to divide their time for each section and try not to attempt questions that they don’t know as there is no such deduction of marks for skipping questions.

However, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks on each wrong answer. Candidates will get +1 marks for each correct answer.

AILET Exam Pattern for LLM

  • LLM  paper consists of two sections- 100 Objective questions and one essay question.
  • The total marks for the exam are 150 –  100 marks for the objective section and 50 marks for the essay.
  • AILET Exam Pattern for Ph.D. Programs
  • AILET exam for Ph. D programs consist of two papers – Paper 1 (Research Methodology) and Paper 2 (Research Proposal Specific Paper).
  • Paper 1 contains 100 multiple-choice questions.
  • In paper 2, candidates have to submit a research proposal in 15 pages on the topic of their Ph.D. degree.

As you are preparing for a law entrance exam, you must have good comprehension skills, which you can develop by reading English Newspapers and articles on daily basis. Learn new words day to make your vocabulary strong. Note down new words, find out their meaning, and use them in your daily life. Questions asked in the exams are

CUT-OFFs

Cut-offs for the AILET exam is prepared on the basis of entrance exam’s result. AILET cutoff is formed to shortlist candidates for admission into law programs. It is declared separately for all categories. The cut-off for the year 2019 AILET Exam is given below:

Preparation Tips for AILET exam

Candidates need to practice the above-mentioned syllabus on daily basis. Questions are repeated sometimes. So don’t forget to practice last year’s papers. Solve all AILET and CLAT previous year papers.
