After the result of JEE Mains & Advanced, the biggest confusion arise in the mind of a candidate about the counselling process. So, this article is going to clear all your confusion regarding the counselling process after JEE Mains & Advanced exam. Hence, JEE Main Counselling 2020 & Seat Allotment starts from 6 October 2020.

There is 3 counselling process for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes)- JOSAA, CSAB NEUT, CSAB SFTIs.

  1. JOSAA: JOSSA counselling is the combined Counselling process for JEE Main & Advanced qualified candidates. As a result, this counselling process considers category rank for seat allocation. Hence, JOSAA counselling is conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority. So, JEE Main Counselling and Seat allocation process for various participating institutes like-
    1. 23IITs (Indian Institute of Technology)
    2. 31NITs (National Institute of Technology)
    3. 25IIITs (Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology)
    4. 28Other GFTIs (Other Government Funded Technical Institute)
  2. CSAB NEUT: Moreover, the seats remain while JOSAA counselling is filled by CSAB NEUT. However, it is conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board for Supernumerary seats in the North and Union Territories. The CRL Rank is considered in this counselling process in order to allot seat.
  3. CSAB SFTIs: CSAB SFTI is a separate counselling process that is conducted by central seat allocation for 18 SFTIs. Seat Allocation is rigidly based on the order of preference filled by the candidates. That is based on JEE Main AIR(All India Ranking) in paper I & II.

JOSAA Counselling Process Step By Step

Before the JOSAA counselling process, let me tell you the reason for the allocation of seats. So basically, seat allotment is done on the basis of various factors. Like the applicant’s rank, candidate’s category, availability of seats, according to the priority order of choices by the candidates for academic programs and institutes and other factors.

After the seat allocation, candidates will have to report to their allotted college for the document verification and fee payment. Name of the allotted institute will be written on the allotment letter.

Now see the JOSAA 2020 Counselling process step by step

1. Online Registration:

  • First of all, you need to go to the official website of JOSAA. Click on the Online Registration & Choice filling to initiate the online registration process.
  • Now, log in using JEE Mains 2020 application number, password, and security pin then click on the “login” option to log in.
  • After that read the instructions carefully and click on “I Agree”.
  • Now, you will get the JOSAA counselling form in order to fill the required details.
  • You have to select the declaration and click on submit.
  • Recheck the details and click on the “Confirm Registration” option if your details are correct. Otherwise, you also have the option of “exit credential” to re-correct your information.

2. Online Choice Filling & Locking

  • After registration, you need to select the choice of courses and colleges on the basis of your preference/priority.
  • Try to select the maximum colleges as it can increase the chances of seat allotment.
  • If you are confirmed about your selected choice filling of college then you can lock the choices before the last date. After the choice locking, you cannot change or remove your choices but before that, you have the opportunity to up-down or add/remove

3. JOSAA Seat Allotment

JOSAA Joint Seat Allocation Authority conducts counselling process. They allow the seats according to the candidate’s choices but it depends on some different factors. Such as Candidates’ Category, AIR (All India Rank) in JEE Mains 2020 rank list, according to the priority order of choices by the candidates, availability seat categories, and seat quota.

The candidate will be notified through email or SMS on registered email ID and mobile number a few days after choice locking.

4. Seat Acceptance Fee Payment and Document Verification

  • You need to pay a seat acceptance fee for allotted seats through Net Banking/e-challan.
  • Counselling conducting authority allot the merit list of selected candidates would be published on the official website.
  • All documents will be verified at the reporting centre.
  • After verification and payment of the fee, a provisional admission later will be issued.

5. Reporting to the Allotted College

  • The final step of JEE Main 2020 counselling is reporting to the allotted institute on the allotted date and time slot.
  • Carry original documents, xerox copies of the required documents and payment receipt, and other important documents.
  • Candidates have to produce all the necessary documents at the time of verification.
  • The name of the assigned institute will be on the allotment letter.

  • Class 10th Marksheet
  • Class 12th Marksheet
  • JEE Mains Admit Card
  • JEE Mains Score Card
  • Provisional Seat Allotment Letter
  1. Caste Certificate: For reserved (OBC-NCL/SC/ST) category candidates
  2. PwD Certificate: For Physically Disability Candidates.
  3. OCI Certificate or PIO card (if applicable)

Personal Details:

  • Identity Card like Aadhaar Card
  • Medical Examination Report
  • Receipt of Seat Acceptance Fee Payment
  • Birth Certificate
  • Minimum three passport size photos
