DMLT Course full form is Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology. It is a paramedical course that can be pursued right after class 12th PCB. Let’s know about what is a paramedical course? So, paramedical is the branch of medical science that supports and gives supplements in medical work. Such as nursing, radiography, emergency first-aid, physiotherapy, etc. It is also termed as an emergency and pre-hospital service.

DMLT course is a diploma program that is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease through clinical laboratory tests.

Duration: DMLT course

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology is a 2-year diploma paramedical course. DMLT course is a job-oriented academic program. It follows a semester pattern. Therefore, there are 4 semesters in 2-year of this program. Most of the university/college provide 2-year of DMLT full-time course. But there is a certain institute that provides a one-year diploma course. Like Madras Christian College, Chennai provides a 1-year diploma course after class 10th.

Eligibility Criteria: DMLT Course

There is a kind of eligibility criteria that the student has to fulfill in order to take admission to this course.

  • Students must have completed class 12th with PCB (physics, chemistry, and biology). PCMB stream students are also eligible for this course.
  • If we talk about the minimum percentage that requires pursuing the DMLT course then it will totally depend upon college criteria. But Most of the university demand minimum of 50% in class 12th standard. Reserved categories may get some sort of percentage relaxation.
  • There are also some universities or institutions where the 10th pass learner can take admission like Madras Chennai University etc.

Admission Process: DMLT Course

Not every academic has the same admission process. Some take admission on the basis of entrance exams whereas other colleges take direct admission. Therefore, it depends on the college facility that how it seizes admission.

There is no certain entrance exam for the DMLT course which is used to conduct all over India. But there are some universities/college level entrance exams like AMU offers relevant entrance tests which are often known as the Common Entrance Test. Further, students have to pass an interview round wherein their general aptitude for the course is tested. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical college follows merit-based admission.

DMLT Syllabus

Paramedical courses teach an individual through classroom lectures, seminars, practical training, internal assessments and tests, viva, projects work, etc. It also provides internship programs for 3-6 months duration.

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology covers premedical subjects like biochemistry, blood banking, microbiology, pathology, immunology, etc. DMLT course provides necessary training to handle lab equipment, microscopic examination conduct the clinical test, and other activity.

DMLT Distance Education

Apart from regular mode, students can also earn a DMLT degree from correspondence mode. Admission to DMLT distance education is offered through both entrance and merit basis.

  1. IGNOU: Indira Gandhi National Open University is an open university. The headquarter of IGNOU is in New Delhi. The DMLT course fee is 25000. The learner can apply for the DMLT course in both the July and January sessions. As usual, the DMLT course is of 2-year long in IGNOU
  2. NIOS: National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is the board of education under the Union Government of India. The headquarter of NIOS is in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. The course fee for the DMLT course in this course is 25000.
  3. MGC: Mahatma Gandhi University (MGC) is another open university where student can fill the form for the DMLT course in the month of August. The headquarter of MGC is in Kottayam, Kerala. The duration of this course is 2-years and a maximum of 4-years so, the fee is 10,500 per semester.
  4. KSOU: KSOU is a distance learning university located in Mysore in the Indian state of Karnataka. Fee – 7200/semester
