Ans. Howard Carter was a British archaeologist. It was he who discovered Tut’s tomb and removed Tut’s mummy to investigate it. His efforts saved Tut’s mummy from robbers and thieves who might have destroyed it to extract its golden adornments.
Ans. King Tut, it was found, was the last hair of a powerful dynasty of rulers in ancient Egypt. He died young in mysterious circumstances. The discovery of his mummy arose the interest among people as to how he died.
Ans. On 5th Jan 2005, Tut’s mummy was subjected to a CT Scan to probe the so far unsolved mysteries related to the young ruler’s life and death, who died more than 3300 years ago.

Ans. Carter wanted to separate the mummified body of Tut from the gold coffin when he tried to do so, he found that the body had cemented to the coffin due to the hardening of ritual resins applied to the body.
Ans. Carter exposed Tut’s mummy to the blazing heat of the desert sun for a house in an attempt to cut it off naturally from the coffin. He used a chisel to separate it from the coffin finally. In so doing, he cut off all the joints of the body, including its head.
Ans. When an anatomy professor X-rayed Tut’s mummy some 40 years after its discovery, he revealed that beneath the resins over the mummy’s chest, breast, bones, and front ribs were missing.
Ans. Ray Johnson rightly described Akhenaten meant the servant of the Aten, the sun disk. He wanted to promote the worship of the Aten. He shocked the people by smashing the images of Amen, a major that got and closed his temples. In another crazy move, he shifted his religious capital from the old city of Akhenaten known now as Amarna.
Ans. The mummy was scanned from head to toe. Zoo digital X-ray images were taken. The head was scanned in 0.62 nm slices to probe the secret of his death. These images finally established that nothing had seriously gone wrong. Tut’s death was natural.
Ans. Technology has now advanced considerably with C.T. Scan, hundreds of X-rays, are put to create a three-dimensional view. It has improved forensic analyses greatly.

Question 1. Give Reasons for the following.
i. King Tut’s body has been subjected to repeated scrutiny:- The mummy has subjected so much scrutiny because king Tut was a teenager when he suddenly died. He was the last heir of the powerful ruling family. He was laid to rest with large quantities of pure gold. People wanted to know why he had died at such an early age. They suspected he could have been murdered for some unknown reason.
ii. Howard Carter’s investigation was resented:- Howard Carter’s investigation badly damaged the mammy. To separate Tut’s body adornments. Howard Carter and his men had to remove the mummy’s head and cut joints. After investigation, they put the mummy back in its tomb. The bad condition in which it was found later was resented by archaeologists.
iii. Carter had to chisel away the solidified resins to raise the king’s remains:- Carter found that the rituals resins had hardened cementing Tut to the bottom of his solid gold coffin. So he had to chisel away the solidified resins to remove the mummy out. If he had not done so, thieves would have come and torn the mummy apart to remove the gold.
iv. Tut’s body was buried along with gilded treasures:- Tut’s body was buried along with quantities of pure gold. It was believed by the royal people that they could take their riches with them after death.
v. The boy king changed his name from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun:- The boy-king changed his name from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun which meant the “living image of Amun”, a major god. His predecessor, Amenhotep IV, had smashed the image of the god Amun and closed his temple as he wanted to promote the worship of the Aten, another god. He wanted to end this chapter of hatred towards Amun. So he changed his name to reassure people that he wanted to restore the old way of worship.
