B.Optm/B.Opto course or Bachelor of Optometry is offered as a 4 years undergraduate level degree program for those who want to pursue medical knowledge of diseases and illness related to eyes and vision. In this course, students can learn things like visual aids, prescription of glasses, development and fitment of lenses, Eye Surgery and other eye-related problems and their cure.

Optometrists perform vision tests and analyze results. They diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and eye diseases, such as glaucoma.

ELIGIBILITY for B.Optm course

  • Minimum Qualification Required is 10+2, with minimum 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics.
  • It is mandatory that a candidate must have studied science stream with PCB or PCMB.
  • The minimum age of eligibility is 17 years.

Admission Process For B.Optm course

In order to take admission for B.Optom course in any Government or Private colleges, candidates can either appear for Entrance exams or can seek direct admissions on the basis of class 12th marks. Generally, government colleges need entrance exams for admissions in this course.

It’s not necessary to give NEET exam for optometry course. But few colleges may accept NEET scores for admissions to this course. Few colleges and universities conducting entrance exams for B.optom are-

SALARY after B.Optm course

At the beginning of a career, a B.Optm graduate can earn anywhere between Rs 20,000- 30,000 per month. However, after gaining 2-3 years of experience and reputation, an Optometrist can earn up to Rs 50,000-80,000 per month.

An Optometrist can earn more with his private clinic. It may take some time to build some reputation in the market, but on an average, an Optometrist with the private clinic can earn up to INR 2,000 to INR 5,000 per day, i.e. around INR 1 lakh per month.

Instead of finding jobs right after completing your graduation, you can also choose Postgraduate degree to improve your career by gaining deep knowledge in the field and get better opportunities than others.
