Bachelor of Hotel Management or simply BHM Course is an undergraduate course which teaches the student all about fundamentals of hotel management. What is BHM?

Bachelor of Hotel Management is a course that introduces student with the fundamental and different aspects of the hospitality sector. Though it does not only cover the portion of hotel management but also covers marketing sales, etc.

BHM deals with the management of operation of a hotel, restaurant, resort motel etc. Candidates are prepared by both theory and practical sessions for the field of hotel Management.

BHM Course: Duration

Bachelor of Hotel Management is of 3 years or 4 years programs. It depends upon the pattern of different university. BHM course follows the semester pattern. So, if this course is for 3 years, then it will have 6 semesters. And in the 4-year course, it will have 8 semesters.

Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility criteria to pursue BHM course has been discussed below-

  1. The candidate must pass class 12th with recognized board. Appearing candidate can also apply in order to pursue BHM course.
  2. There is no fixed stream in class 12th standard. So, if you are having any stream (science, arts, commerce) you are eligible for this course.
  3. Minimum marks should be in the range of 50% to 80% in class 12th. It will totally depend upon the university’s criteria because different university keeps different criteria.

Age Limit: Some universities have an age limit and some universities do not. So, let’s see the upper age limit on the basis of caste. 22 years is the upper age limit for those who belong to General or other Background classes (OBC) category. On the other hand, 25 years for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.

The admission process for the entry to this course varies from college to college. Admission to any college/university can be done through entrance exams, direct process or through lateral entry. So, it is up to the norms of the college/university.

NCHMCT (National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology) is the most common entrance exam for the entry in the top-level IHM’s for BHM course. NCHMCT JEE is a national level entrance exam organized to offer hospitality and hotel administration programmes. It is many student’s dreams to be part of IHM’s. In order to enter in IHM’s, you have to score well in NCHMCT JEE exam.
