• The very first similarity of BTech and BE is duration. Both BTech and BE are 4-year undergraduate bachelor’s degree course in the field of engineering. Both follow the semester pattern, which means, these are having 8 semesters in 4 years.
• The core subject of these courses is almost similar to each other.
• AICTE – All India Council for Technical Education has clarified that they provide equal recognition to both BTech and BE. Now, you might have the question that What is AICTE?
  • AICTE was set up in November 1945 as a national level Apex Advisory Body to conduct a survey on the facilities available for technical education and to promote development in the country in a coordinated and integrated manner. Therefore, both of these courses are similar to each other.

Difference between BTech and BE

Now let’s discuss – What is the difference between BTech and BE?

There is very little difference in nomenclature/name and approach of course. Let’s see

• Bachelor of Technology is abbreviated as BTech whereas Bachelor of Engineering is abbreviated as BE. The difference between BTech and BE is quite clear from their name that is Technology and Engineering respectively.
• The main focus of the Bachelor of Engineering is to equip the student with theoretical knowledge to innovate technology and invent some new technical gadgets. But Bachelor of Technology is mainly an application and skilled based course. Its prime focus is on making the student understand the technology behind the working of gadgets and modify or enhance their quality of working.
• In short, BE is a knowledge-oriented course that mainly emphasizes the theoretical side of the program. Whereas BTech is a skill and technology-oriented course which mainly emphasizes the practical side of the program.
• BE is mainly offered by Universities like BITS PILANI, Anna University, and BTech is offered by IITs and NITs.
• There is very little difference in the course structure of BTech and BE. The course structure of BE is not always updated, but in BTech, it is not like that. Due to technology, whatever changes and update would be done on gadgets/technology it would happen the same on the course of BTech.
• Practicals of BE and BTech courses have different ratios. It depends on college/university. But BTech has more practical sessions than BE.
• In the case of BTech, internship and industrial visits are compulsory but it is not necessary to BE course. This may depend upon college/university.
• The fee of BTech and BE is totally dependent upon college/university.
• The admission process is almost similar for BTech and BE. It is basically done through the entrance exam. There are some common entrance exams that are conducted for both BTech and BE. Like JEE Main, Advance, etc.

Which one is better BTech or BE?

Both the engineering degree course has its own importance.

If a student wants to join a field that is engaged in the manufacturing of hardware then BE is more suitable for them.

However, if a person wishes to join a field that makes hardware more efficient or attractive by modifying them then BTech would be more suitable.

The student can choose any one of them depending upon their interest, passion, and career. At present, none of them are superior to one another. Both get equal value and importance.

BTech vs BE: Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility criteria for BE and BTech is similar. Let’s see what are the minimum qualification requirements to pursue a BE and BTech course in India.

1. First of all, you have to pass class 12th or if you are in class 12th then also you are eligible for these courses.
2. The second thing is that there should be a science stream in the 12th standard it can be PCM, PCMB, etc.
3. In order to pursue these courses from top universities/colleges, a minimum of 50% must be required.
4. To get admission to a good college, you have to appear for entrance exams. If clearing a particular entrance exam that means you have your name on a cut-off list then you can take admission by counselling.

Career Prospects after BTech and BE

Firstly, the job opportunity and future scope is similar for both BTech and BE course. If you have the options of a very reputed and famous college/university that offer BE program but you wish to join the BTech course and it is not available at any good college at that time then you should go with BE course. Because it is important to develop your skill rather than a degree.

Only a degree is not important in order to exist in the industry. Reputed and best colleges also offer good placement to the deserving candidate. Therefore, it is important to take admission to the right college/university. And for better result maintain your percentage throughout the course.

Higher Education after BTech and BE

After successful completion of BE or BTech, you can give entrance exams that are conducted for PG courses like GATE, CAT, GRE, and IELTS, etc. Some of the PG courses after BTech and BE is given below-
