BVoc is the acronym of the Bachelor of Vocation. NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) and UGC (University Grant Commission) had started the BVoc course together in 2014. What is the need for initiating the BVoc course? Let’s see:

The employment rate has been decreasing with the increase in literacy rate. Every year, approx 10 thousand students are completing their graduation. But half of the students get a job. The rest half are unemployed just because they are unskilled. That’s why NSDC and UGC have decided to initiate a BVoc course so that it can increase the employment rate in India.


BVoc Course: Objective

  • The main objective of providing the BVoc course is to enhance skills for a particular trade and increase the employment rate in the country.
  • To provide multiple entries and exit points at various stages of this BVoc course.
  • To empower the Youth leading to employment to generate more income.

BVoc course is an undergraduate degree program that includes more than 100 trades. As we know, Vocational or skill-based education is becoming more significant in the present era. This course totally different from traditional academic programs. It is mainly focusing on practicals and pieces of training.

There is one important specialty of this course. There are many exit points in this course like –

  • If the students left the course after 1 year or by some reason they are not pursuing it, then they will get the diploma of that 1 year of B.voc course.
  • If the student completes their 2nd year then they will be certified with the advanced diploma.
  • After completing their 3-year B.voc course then they will be awarded as BVoc degree.

BVoc Course: Duration

BVoc course is a three-year undergraduate course that is divided into a total of 6 semesters. There are two semesters in one year.

Some Universities offer this course by some other names like:

1. BVET [Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training]
2. BCTE [Bachelor of Career and Technical Education Degree]

BVoc course: ELIGIBILITY CRITERION

1. The basic eligibility criterion is the successful completion of the Senior Secondary level of education (class XII) with a minimum of 50% from a recognized board.
2. Eligibility criteria may vary from college to college, it depends upon the norms of College/University for a particular course.

BVoc Course: AGE LIMIT

There are the different age limit for different category and there is some age relation for reserved categories:
1. 23years age limit for general category
2. 25years age limit for SC/ST category
3. 25years age limit for girls candidate
4. Chancellor may permit age relaxation as per there norms.

B.Voc course is mainly prepared to provide skill+practical knowledge (industry-based knowledge)+training+project which develops students’ personality. This is the thing that is needed in the industry as an employer.
B.Voc course is similar to any other degree program but is quite a difference. Traditional courses like BSc, B.com, etc. provide only 30% practical and 70% theory. But B.voc provides 60% practical and only 40% theory (classes).

BVoc Course: ADMISSION PROCESS

There are several numbers of entrance exams that are conducted by various Universities/Colleges. Some of the University /College take admission on the basis of 12th marks. But it is not a necessity to have every trade for B.voc in a particular college. So before going to take admission, check very carefully your sector in which you want to do.

BVoc course: SPECIALISATION

There is more than 100 trade in which a student can do B.voc by their interest. But all the trade is not implemented in every college.

It can be difficult for students to identify their wish list branch.
